Britney Spears, since releasing her debut album titled „…Baby One More Time” was and to this day is known as The princess of Pop. At just 16 years old, she made history by charting in the top 12 best selling singles of the 90’s list, despite realising the title track of the album in 1999, at the very end of the decade.

She quickly became a role model amongst young girls from across the world, despite being just a teenager herself. While publicly, everything seemed to be going great, remaining a stable hit maker for the next years, in 2008, after a public breakdown her
conservatorship begun, controlled by her father. As of then, the fans were mainly unaware of Britney’s situation, and it remained a controversial and an unpopular topic. Despite what she was going through, she released yet another studio album,
„Blackout„
Unintentionally, the album she released at her lowest was instantly said to be the greatest pop album of all time, with people saying later on that she formed, created and shaped what today we would call modern pop.

In the second track of the experimental project, „Piece of Me„
, her lyrics start to undeniably get darker and more explicit about her situation, despite the high tempo synth beat.

„Guess I can’t see the harm in workin’ and bein’ a mama
And with a kid on my arm, I’m still an exceptional earner„

Raised suspicion amongst her fans and listeners, though no one made the decision to simply reach out to her. It was most likely because at that point, she was being so strictly controlled and so exploited, that she was simply unreachable by most.
Despite the pain she was going through at that time, Britney was forced to keep working, later describing the labour she was put through as simply so exhausting that she was unable to function properly. She claimed she was compelled to work seven days a week, full
time with no breaks. As everyone seemed to forget about what took place, she released more albums like „Circus„, „Femme Fatale„, and „Britney Jean„

Britney’s last released studio album, „Glory”, came out in 2016 after a three year hiatus from music. In 2019, Britney’s well being started to get traction across the internet again. Fans became suspicious after her Las Vegas residency was cancelled and she did not appear in public, leading to rumors of an involuntary stay in a mental health facility.
In said year, fans started a movement called #Freebritney. They went as far as to protest outside with signs, posters, and even cutouts of their favourite pop star. It swiftly evolved to a global, fan-led campaign demanding to free Britney Spears from years of ongoing abuse. Over 185.000 people signed the petition created for her, also gaining significant celebrity support.

In Novermber of 2021, a court case terminated Britney’s 13 year
conservatorship. It became a public speculation that Britney’s father stole over 6 million dollars from her illegaly.
In 2023, Britney Spears released her book titled „The Woman in Me”, exposing her family, along her sister who she claimed also exploited her, lied about her and abused her along with their father. She later on single handedly proved the claims about her made by Jamie Lynn Spears, her sister, to be false.
Britney continued to gain her stolen money back, distancing herself from the media. She moved out in 2023 outside of the US while managing her finances for herself after years.
Despite finally being free, she sadly gained heavy backlash from people for refusing to release more music. The media went as far as to say that who they were seeing today was not Britney, though she also shut those rumours down, and proved she was indeed the same Britney.
As of now, she lives free from the toxicity of the media and the people who hurt her, stating that she is not interested in ever coming back to perform in the US, though hinting at being active in places like Australia and Europe.
With that, Britney Spears made history. She reshaped music forever, and to this day, many celebrities look up to the icon she is, still relevant and significant in the industry even after over 27 years.
